Lamka, April 21 2012: The district veterinary officials have started mass vaccination of domesticated animals today as a pre-emptive measure to protect the animals from Black Quarter that has been taking the form of epidemic in some pockets of the state.

A little over 150 animals, mostly cows and buffaloes, were vaccinated during the drive that began at day-break, Saidoukum Pudaite, Jt Director (Vety) said.

"We have to start early as we don't want the animals to miss their chores, or get to them before they are let-off by their masters," he adds.

Still they missed some, but was made up by leaving the vaccine to the masters after due instructions were given on how to go about in injecting them.

The Vets' drive will continue in earnest till the world veterinary day which falls on April 28, according to the Joint Director who also claimed that they will be dolling out anti-rabies vaccine at free of cost.

Parikrama to sway Imphal crowds

Imphal, April 21 2012: Legendary rock band of India, Parikrama and other rock bands from Assam, Aizawl and Imphal will sway rock music lovers of the State at the Nokia Yaoshang Rock Fest 2012 which is scheduled for tomorrow (April 22) at YAC Ground, Yaiskul.

Speaking to media persons today at the Manipur Press Club, RK Sanjoy, Director of Mozaic Media Communication Pvt Ltd, the event organiser, said the Rock fest will feature Shades of Retribution (Assam), Apples (Aizawl), Fringes (Imphal), June Neelu (Imphal) and Angelica (Imphal) .

He said all the performing bands from outside the State have arrived in Imphal.

Sanjoy said Parikrama only charges one third of their regular fees for the love of the people of North East and their eagerness to perform in Imphal.

The event is being managed by Oriental Pumpkin Events while it is sponsored by Nokia.

Sanjoy said a one-month long promotion was held with Nokia by giving free passes on purchase of selected Nokia Phones.

Tickets has been made available at the venue since April 19 .

He also appealed all concerned to extend support and not to cause disturbances by imposing bandh on the day.

Apollo hospital announces packages for State

Imphal, April 21 2012: Specialists from Kolkata based Apollo Gleneagles Cancer Hospital would now be visiting Imphal on a regular basis to offer consultation and conduct cancer screening programmes.

Significantly, the AGCH has also announced 15 percent discount in treatment at the hospital for journalists working in Manipur and their families.

This was announced by the Consultant, Radiation Oncology of the hospital, Dr Tanmoy Mukhopadhyay during a press meet at the Manipur Press Club this evening.

Dr Tanmoy said as a part of offer consultation and conduct cancer screening programmes, the specialists of the hospital would come to Imphal and conduct free cancer detection and cardiology check-up around June-July.

Hoax bomb panics Secretariat

Imphal, April 21 2012: Filled bottles of cough syrup hoaxed staffer of New Secretariat today prompting high ranking security officers to rush to the spot to take stock of the situation.

Staffer of Settlement Directorate found nine bottles of cough syrup packed in a black colour bag this afternoon inside a plastic dustbin near Room No 208 of Settlement Office Block, New Secretariat.

A wave of panic spread among the staffer soon after the discovery fearing that it could be an explosive.

All the staffs of the block were evacuated outside the building.

Following an information to the police, several high ranking police officers including ADGP, V Zathang, Special Secretary (Home) Clay Khongsai, and Additional SP of Imphal West, Herojit rushed to the spot to oversee the situation.

CRPF personnel with sniffer dog sanitising New Secretariat


With the assistance of police bomb experts and sniffer dogs of CRPF, the area as well as the spot was surveyed for around 30 minutes.

Later, the police confirmed it to be a pack of filled cough syrup, D-Cough.

As a pre-emptive measure, the police scanned the area with metal detectors.
