Moses for MLA

MOSES FOR MLA
T.Kaithang

But Moses protested to God, “Who am I to appear before Pharaoh? Who am I to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt?” The Bible.

The Election Commission of India recently announced polling for the 5 states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarkhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur between 10 February and 7 March next. However, long before this expected announcement, a cacophony of noises emanating from intending and hopeful aspirants assailed the public senses. Aspirants started their maneuvers for securing the most sought-after, magical party tickets to guarantee their success. They use the social media like the TV, FB or other medium to project themselves as the much-awaited change-makers who would outdo, outperform or surpass the incumbent. Some hitherto unknown have developed a new-found fervour in carrying out charity work, of course in the presence of the obiquitous camera, to disperse the good work of the  samaritan even before the paint/cement/ink is dry.

But there are chronic problems that dogged our people. Where is clean drinking water we have been deprived of for half a century now? Where are the ‘pucca’ roads? Where are the government schools and their  teachers? Where are the fishery, piggery, horticulture, agriculture farms? Where are the employment-generating projects? Where are all the skill development and training institutions and why, if they are there, must they languish as cowsheds? And why should people from the villages carry the sick on makeshift stretchers along non-existent roads? For crying out aloud, where are the medical staff who are supposed to be working in the primary health centers?

And why should the whole Lamka town engulfed in dust when dry and slushy when wet? Some aspirants have a history of being in the public domain whose past may not stand up to a bit of scratching to rake up muck/sludge. Some are new in the field. But all have one common trait: they all think they are better than the next person.

So, this election, I am going to vote for Moses who is humble. Where are you Moses?

T.Kaithang,
Lailam Veng, Lamka.
