Lamka, April 25 2012: With the onset of monsoon, a tragic story of ring-well workers dying inside their work place apparently due to lack of oxygen has once again haunt this southern district as two men reportedly died inside a ring-well at Bethel village, about a couple of kilometers from here.
Traumatised by the incident or disturbed over the fact that one of the victim was still to be extricated from the 'killer well' crucial eye witnesses are still too weak or are still hesitant to narrate their ordeal even at the time of filing this report.
However people who are in engaged in the rescue operation said they heard about the incident at around 4 in the evening.
The owner of the ring-well identified as Suongam, hired three individuals to clean-up his ringwell today.
While the three were engaged in their chores, the man inside the ring-well felt unconscious and on seeing this his friends along with two of their proprietor's sons entered the well one after another and tried to rescue those trapped inside, said a source.
In the course of the tragedy, Ngamkhohao (26) s/o Lamminthang of Molnom village and one of Suongam's son identified as Mangkholen (37) lost their lives, while two others Lalcha (20) also the son of Suongam and Nehkhohao (24) s/o Thatkham of Molnom village were rescued in an unconscious state and admitted at Sielmat Christian Hospital and District Hospital respectively.
The fifth man, Jamgoulal (20) s/o Letthang of Molnom village managed to escape from the tragedy allegedly after rescuing two of his friends but was still in a state of shock.
Despite attempts to obtain his version of the tragedy he refused to talk.It is pertinent to note that five men have lost their lives at Rengkai on May 23, 1999 and two people again died at the same village some years back, while one died at Tuibuong village in a similar tragedy, in the past.

Blood sucking man caught
IMPHAL, April 25: In a shocking incident amidst reports of child kidnapping, a person allegedly sucked blood from his own 3 year old nephew at Keirao Mayai Leikai today.
The person identified as Maibam Jiban was caught by local meira paibis at Keirao Mayai Leikai on Wednesday. He was later picked up by the police.
He however denied the accusation and said he was only playing with the child.
Maibam Jiban, aged 38, son of M Iboyai of Yairipok Yambem is a drug addict, according to reports.
He was caught by local meira paibis of Keirao Mayai Leikai after one of the locals saw him sucking blood from the 3 year old at the boy’s residence, Wednesday afternoon at 12:10pm.
The victim boy has been identified as Pukhrambam Prithiviraj, son of P Surjeet of Keirao Mayai leikai.
Accused Jiban was seen holding a sickle on the boy’s throat with one hand and sucking on the boy’s palm at the veranda of the house of the boy by a local who called the meira paibis of the area.
The incident happened when the boy’s mother who is the accused’s younger sister had gone out to attend a religious feast in the neighbourhood. The boy’s father was also not at home during the entire episode.
At the time of the incident, the boy’s grandmother and his one and seven month old brother were inside the house.
Maibam Jiban was staying at his sister’s residence since Tuesday evening. He was brought along by his brother in law after they met at Palace compound Tuesday evening.
Soon after he was caught by the local meira paibis, someone had tipped the Irilbung police following which the personnel of the police station arrived and took control of the situation before it went out of hand.
However, when the police tried to whisk the accused away, a brief scuffle ensued between the police and the locals.
The angry mob turned its ire towards Sanjit’s house saying that the family was trying to protect the drug addict uncle.
The mob tried to dismantle Sanjit’s house. However, timely intervention of the Irilbung PS prevented any untoward incident.
Jiban is reported to be a driver of a truck engaged in delivery of chicken to the army.

Man caught sucking blood of three years old boy thrashed by locals
Imphal, April 25 2012: A man was caught red-handed while sucking blood from a 3-year old boy after cutting the boy's left palm with a sickle at Keirao Bitra Mayai Leikai under Irilbung police station in Imphal East district today.
The person, identified as Maibam Jiban (32) s/o M.Iboyai of Yambem Mathak Leikai, Yairipok was staying at the house of his sister P (O) Ibemcha at Keirao, it is reported.
The boy is identified as Pukhrambam Prithiviraj, s/o P.Surjit and P.(O) Ibemcha of Keirao Bitra Mayai Leikai under Irilbung police station, Imphal East district.
The boy was playing with his younger sister, grandmother and Jiban (his maternal uncle) in their courtyard at around 11:30 am today when their grandmother heard Prithiviraj cried out loudly and turned to see Jiban holding the boy and sucking blood from his left palm.
On seeing the scary sight of Jiban sucking blood from the hand of her grandson, the old woman ran to fetch the mother of the boy who had gone to attend a religious ceremony nearby and whose father was also out on some business, with the younger sister of Prithiviraj tied on her back.
Meanwhile, local people of the area came out and saw what was happening and tried to stop Jiban from harming the boy further.
But Jiban put the sickle on the neck of the boy and threatened that the consequence would not be good if the people tried to come near him.
But finally the people of the locality managed to disarm Jiban and stopped him from doing any further harm to the boy, though he suffered deep cut on his left palm between the thumb and index finger, and had sickle mark on his neck.
The local people also thrashed Jiban.
The police have picked up Jiban and taken him to Irilbung police station for further action, it is reported.
One woman expressed that till today they had only heard about such blood curling events through newspapers, but now that such incidents are happening in their locality she was afraid to let her children play outside as they can easily become victims of such crimes.
Another person stated that Jiban seemed to a drug user, though he denied taking drug to the police and media persons.
Meanwhile, Jiban denied sucking the blood of the boy.
He said he was only playing with the boy.
