Lamka, May 22 2012: The Churachandpur police claimed to have apprehended a suspect in the brutal murder of a seventeen-year-old student last night.
Identified as one Thangchinlian, 32 son of Thongzachin of Zoar Veng, Bungmual, the suspect, sources said bore a resemblance of the criminal which the victim had described before he succumbed to his injury.
Thangchinlian was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate today and has been remanded to police custody till May 31 .
It is expected that the police will continue to interrogate him while in their custody to get to the bottom of the matter.
Jacob Malsawmlien was stabbed at the abodomen by an unidentified miscreant on Sunday night while heading to a friend's place near Rengkai cemetery.
He had bravely pulled out the knife from his abdomen and chased his attacker but could not catch him.
It is said that he had even threw the knife at the attacker when he began to lose strength, but missed his target.
Meanwhile, Churachandpur United Club Organisation has condemned the brutal murder of Jacob and demanded the authorities to nab the culprit and award him befitting punishment according to the law.
As news of the ghastly killing spread, angry residents of Churachanpur town came out and burnt tyres on the road to lodge their protest.
