Thadou community in Namma celebrates Chavang Golnop – cum-Chavang Kut - 2014

The 2nd Autumn Sports –cum – Autumn Festival in Bengaluru was celebrated successfully and with a pompous affair under the aegis of the Thadou Students Associations’ Bengaluru. The Sporting event with the theme “Camaraderie thru sports” was inaugurated by Evan. Letkhopao Haokip on 31st Oct 2014 and the extravaganza ended in style with the celebration of Chavang-Kut.
The event witness competitions in various sporting discipline like Football, Volley Ball, Long Jump, High jump etc. While Kothanur –C team went home with Champion title in Football, Shanti Nagar Area Team was the champion in Volley Ball.
The Autumn Fest celebration began at 6.30 pm on 1st Nov 2014 with Pu. Seikhohao Sitlhou as the Chief Host (Kut Pa) and Pu D.V. Sadananda Gowda, (Minister for Railways, Govt of India) as the Chief Guest. Guests of Honor include Pu B.A.Basavaraja – MLA (KR Puram A/C, Bengaluru), Pu SH Seipu – Former Chairman (ADC- SH Manipur) , Pu Alok Kumar,- IPS ( Addl Commissioner of Police (L&O) Bengaluru City) and Pu Vikash Kumar Vikash - IPS ( DCP, North-East Sub-Division , Bengaluru City). Pu Nagendra P graced the Kut as special invites. Dignitaries from Manipur also participated in the event, among them were Pu James Haokip (Secretary General, TSA - GHQ), Pu Nehkholal Haokip (Adviser TSA – GHQ) and Pu Paokam Haokip (Former President, KSO-GHQ)
After the programme was dedicated to the almighty by Pastor Andrew Haokip, the event went on with full swing, various local artistes rocking the stage. There was a display of cultural dance like Suhta – Laam (Bamboo Dance) from White field cultural troupe besides fantastic cultural shows from Hope Lions Home, TSA- B cultural team and Agape Children’s Home. The much awaited beauty contest stole the limelight of the audience with Miss Gracy Nengneithem, Miss Chongneikim and Miss Vahneinem walking away with the Miss Kut, 1st Runners up and 2nd Runners title which carried a cash prize of Rs 5000, Rs 3000, and Rs 2000 respectively.
The event also welcomed the participation from various Thadou sister- tribes like Hmar, Paite and Vaiphei who also extend their greetings on this festive day. Dr. Rini Ralte, President of the North East Solidarity (NES) also shared few words with audience. Michael Haokip- President of TSA-B stressed that such a celebration of the festival have been arranged in sync with the wishes and happiness of the people and that with the people’s support and blessings it will be arranged with more vigour in the coming years. While the term “KUT” refers to festival in most of the language of the CHIN-KUKI-MIZO family and as such KUT is celebrated by all the tribes, the term “CHAVANG” which literally means autumn is a Thadou Dialect and that the term “Chavang Kut” in specific is the affairs of the Thadou Tribe only, added the President.
The celebration went on with full momentum with Artistes and Performers enthralling the audience and like all good things the programme came to an end around 11.30 PM.
