Vaiphei dictionary released

IMPHAL, Aug 9: A tri-language dictionary, for the first time for Vaiphei community, was released by JN Baite, member ADC, Chandel district at Vaiphei Christian Church (VCC) Hall at New Lambulane, Imphal today.

The dictionary entitled, Vaiphei to Vaiphei, Manipuri and English Dictionary, and Author/Compiler/Editor of the book is Rev P Kamlam Vaiphei, a retired MCS officer.

Speaking at the dedication-cum-releasing ceremony of the dictionary, the author said that he has never been inspired to become a writer or to compile a book, but when he attended a seminar on the importance of the indigenous language organized by the Kala Academy some years back, he took the mission to compile a dictionary.

He said, though Vaiphei is small tribe, many of the people did not even know the alphabets of Vaiphei properly.

JN Baite who graced the function as chief guest said that it is indeed a day which would be written in the annals of history of Vaiphei community. He also lauded the author for his contribution towards the community. Vaiphei Literature Society Vice-Chairman, Liankhothang who also attended the function as functional president said that Vaipheis are still under the making of the language and this dictionary will be very handy for the community.

The dedication cum releasing of dictionary was attended by the officials of Vaiphei People Council (VPC), Zillai (Vaiphei Students’ Association) and government officers apart from a good numbers of public from the Vaiphei community.
