Imphal, Oct 12: In accordance to the decision taken by the Union government, the state government has started rationing the supply of cooking gas cylinders to the consumers since September last.
However, instead of the provision announced earlier for providing nine cylinders to each consumer at subsidized rate in a year in all Congress ruled states, consumers in Manipur would be getting not more than 3 gas cylinders till March, according to report received from Indian Oil Corporation (IOC).
Even though the state government had announced through the media that another three gas cylinders in addition to the six assured would be provided to the consumers, no official documents have reached the IOC in the regard.
The report said that the cooking gas cylinders which are being provided to the consumers at the rate of Rs 424.50 weigh 14.2 kg. If a consumer wishes to take an extra gas cylinder after his/her allocated share at the subsidized rate is over, he or she has to pay Rs 1,068.50 per cylinder. The trend of issuing gas cylinders to VIPs and police personnel on production of letter from higher up officials has also been stopped since September last.

Dengue outbreak suspected in Tamu town
Imphal, October 12 2012: An unknown disease showing symptoms of fever on the patient(s) is now fast spreading in Tamu town, and the unknown disease is suspected to be dengue.
One official of the National Vector Borne Disease Control Society, however, maintained that they have received reports about outbreak of an unknown disease showing symptoms of fever but no definite information about the particular disease has been received so far.
Nevertheless, it is possible that the disease is dengue which is transmitted by a particular species of mosquito.
Though the disease is reported from Tamu town of Myanmar, it is possible that the disease may be transmitted to Moreh and further to different parts of the State as people from both sides of the border visit Moreh as well as Tamu town daily.
There was dengue outbreak at Moreh in 2007.Given the past records, it cannot be ruled out that dengue would not break out again in the border town, said the official.
But there is no reason to panic as all necessary equipment and medicines for treatment of dengue is available in the State.
But there should be no delay in treatment.
It is risky if dengue is not treated soon after one is confirmed to have been infected by the same disease.
Once an individual is infected by dengue, the density of blood platelet becomes thinner and the individual grows weaker.
The State has the equipment to separate and inject platelets, added the official.

EU wins 2012 Nobel Peace Prize
OSLO, Oct 12: The European Union won the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for its historic role in uniting the continent in an award meant as a morale boost for the bloc as it struggles to resolve its debt crisis.
The EU has been a key in transforming Europe "from a continent of wars to a continent of peace," committee chairman Thorbjoern Jagland said in announcing the award in Oslo.
"This is a message to Europe to do everything they can to secure what they've achie-ved and move forward," Jag- land said, saying it was a re-minder of what would be lost "if the union is allowed to collapse".
He praised the 27-nation EU for rebuilding after World War Two and for its role in spreading stability after the 1989 fall of the Berlin Wall.
The prize, worth $1.2 million, will be presented in Oslo on Dec. 10. The decision by the five-member panel, led by Jagland who is also Secretary-General of the Council of Europe, was unanimous.
The EU won from a field of 231 candidates including Russian dissidents and religious leaders working for Muslim-Christian reconciliation.
But the EU is mired in crisis with strains on the euro, the common currency shared by 17 nations. The prize was a surprise given the EU's current woes.
And many Norwegians are bitterly opposed to the EU, seeing it as a threat to the sovereignty of nation states. "I find this absurd," the leader of Norway's anti-EU membership organisation Heming Olaussen told NRK.
"In Latin America and other parts of the world they will view this quite differently than they will from Brussels. The union is a trade bloc that contributes to keeping many countries in poverty."
Norway, the home of the peace prize, has voted "no" twice to joining the EU, in 1972 and 1994. The country has prospered outside the EU, partly thanks to huge oil and gas resources.
The five-member committee is appointed by parlia- ment, where parties are deeply split over EU membership. Jagland has long favoured EU membership.
Janne Haaland Matlary, Professor of International Politics at the Oslo University, who has twice nominated the EU for the prize, praised the award.
"The European Union has been the most effective creator of peace in the world since its inception with the coal and steel union in the 1950s," she said. "Today it is unthinkable with military conflict between members in the EU."
