Delhi Siamsin Freshers Social and an Evening of Solidarity.
ZNN | New Delhi 11 September 2015. Thousands of Siamsins came together at the Siri Fort Auditorium, New Delhi for the Delhi Siamsin Freshers' Social and an Evening of Solidarity. The program begin at around 5:30pm and was hosted by Thangzasiam Paite and Kimremmawi Tonsing . Although it was a Paite Students program, members from other tribal organisation joined this program as it was an evening of solidarity for those who gave their lives in the recent Manipur Tribal issue.
The usage of huge LED display made the event more spectacular. Many beautiful patriotic songs were presented by different tribes - the Hmar, the Mizo,the Zou,the Simte, the Naga, the Vaiphei, the Thadou and the Paites. A special mentioned may be made on Nu Lamkholhing, a veteran Kuki singer who sang "Aw Churachandpur" beautifully and the song was indeed relevant to the current situation in Churachandpur.
Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs of India was the Chief Guest. Golan Naulak, the President of the Siamsinpawlpi, JHQ Delhi welcomed the gathering and a motivational speech was given by Pastor Nenglian Vualnam for the freshers. Another highlight of the event was the meritorious award and the election of the new SSPP President. Pu L. Khammuanlal Ngaihte was elected unopposed as the new SSPP President.
Kiren Rijiju said he was moved by the dead’s of 9 youths in Churachandpur and wanted an end to such horrible incidents. Mani Charenamei, Ex-MP from Outer Manipur also spoke on the occasion. He said he was given 'val upa' title by the Delhi YPA and now he considered himself the ‘val upa ‘of all the tribals. He also condemned the atrocities meted by the tribal back in Manipur and the bills passed by the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
Video presentation and condolence of the Tribal Martyrs, presentation of cultural dances, slam poetry and invocation prayers for all the student leaders also marked an important segments of the event. The convenor of the Manipur Tribal Forum, Delhi Romeo Hmar gave report on the latest update from his team.
The program was opened in a prayer by Rev Paosei Kipgen and ended by Pastor J Mangter at 10pm.
