Ban on Catholic schools berated
Imphal, Apr 6 : An open discussion held today on the ongoing imposition of ban on Catholic schools organised by Democratic Students' Alliance Manipur (DESAM) at MDU Hall, Yaiskul Police Lane strongly demanded that the ban be lifted immediately.
The participants of the discussion programme also collectively resolved to urge the Govt to look into the matter and take up necessary measures against such anti-social elements.
They also resolved to urge the UG group concerned to lift the ban.
To stage various forms of agitation in case the State Govt fails to counter or stop such activities, to urge all civil society organisations and others to restrain from imposing such harsh measures of imposing ban on any educational institutions in future are among others resolutions adopted today during the discussion programme.
Severe threat faced by authorities of Catholic Schools in Manipur and the subsequently imperilling the academic careers of numerous students of various schools due to the threat were deeply deliberated.
Representatives of Catholic Education Society Manipur, All Manipur Recognized Private Schools’ Welfare Association, All Manipur School Students Transport Association, students’ organizations and many teachers and concerned guardians took part in the discussion.
Speakers of the programme said that imposing a ban on schools due to misunderstanding of any degree is a wrong step. The ban has severely affected the students. The ban has not only caused harm to the educational institutions but also has the potential to cause collateral damages.
Addressing the programme, Director of Catholic Education Society, Manipur clarified that the reason for imposing the indefinite ban on various Catholic schools were not known by the authority until it was announced through the media.
