World AIDS Day was observed yesterday at First Manipur Riffles Ground organised by Manipur State Aids Control Society, MACS. This year the theme of World Aids Day is ‘Getting to Zero’.
Speaking at the function, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh said although the number of HIV and AIDS related cases have been reported to be decreasing, it is still in alarming situation. The Chief Minister said many early detection centres have been opened at RIMS, JNIMS, Community Health Centre and various District hospitals.
Cautioning NGOs to work sincerely, CM Ibobi Singh said those NGOs found misappropriating funds meant for spreading awareness to prevent the spread of HIV and AIDS will be blacklisted.
Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing during the function said 90% of population is aware of HIV/AIDS. The health minister also said in last 10 years cases of HIV/AIDS among women and children has increased compared to drug users.
