Inner Line Permit gaining momentum : Terms and condition set for Non-Locals in Manipur
TSE
Public meetings held today at different places resolved that no house owner should let rooms and houses to non-local people without approval of the local Meira Paibis and clubs.
Public meetings held today at Kwakeithel Thokchom Leikai, Khagempalli Hui-drom Leikai and elsewhere on the common issue of ILPS took three different identical resolutions.
Implementation of ILPS in the State as early as possible, denial of accommodation to non-locals who do not possess valid identity cards and prohibition on entry of non-locals into different localities without obtaining prior permission of the local clubs and Meira Paibis were some of the key resolutions adopted at these meetings.
Speaking at the meeting, Keishamthong Apunba Nupi Lup president RK Bhanubati expressed strong belief that indigenous people of the State would face similar fate like indigenous Tripuris if ILPS is not enforced at the earliest.
She stated that elected leaders must step down from their respective posts if they are not willing to acknowledge the voice of the people.
The State may witness a June 18 like uprising if the Government continues to sideline the aspiration of the people, she cautioned.
Bhanubati said that local clubs and Meira Paibis must be consulted if any house owner wants to rent room or house to non-local tenants.
Sorojini of UMO, Advocate RK Geetasana, Advocate M Jagjit and social worker P Shreekanth also spoke at the meetings as resource persons.
Similar public meetings were also held at Huidrom Leikai, Longjam Leikai, Keis-hampat Thangjam Leikai, Nagamapal Lai Ishing Chaibi and Singjamei Wangma Kongba road.
Demanding ILPS implementation, the participating organisations and individuals also resolved to extend support and co-operation to any agitation initiated by JCILPS on ILPS issue.
On the other hand, sit-in-protests were staged deman- ding implementation of ILPS at Thangmeiband Hijam De-wan Leikai, Thangmeiband Meisnam Leikai, Phayeng Awang Leikai, Heibongpokpi Maning Leikai, Takyel Khongbal Maning Leikai, Lalambung Makhong community hall, Kongpal Mayai Leikai, Ayangpali Ning- them Puhkri Mapal, Nongmeibung and also at Singjamei Kongba road.
Carrying on the mass movement for implementation of ILPS in the State, the Meinam Leikai Meira Paibi staged sit in protest at Nagamapal demanding implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the State.
While addressing the gathering during the protest, the spokesperson of JCILPS Manipur Advocate Angomcha Araba expressed that it is unfortunate for the people of Manipur ILP system is still not implemented in the State despite the fact that Manipur Legislative Assembly had taken two resolutions on ILP. He continued that Govt should feel people’s sentiment on the issue.
Advocate Araba reminded that civil society organisations, students and meira paibis were protesting for implementation of ILPS during Assembly session. He then said that there is widespread discontent among the people of Manipur following police excesses to the young students, adding that the police cruelty only serves as fuels to the burning fire instead of controlling the movement.
Commenting on the agitation, the JCILPS spokesperson justified that the ILP demand is a right movement and the Govt of Manipur should act accordingly.
Meanwhile, such a sit in protest was also held at Thangmeiband Community Hall under the organisation of Thangmeiband Apunba Nupi Lup.
