Singngat MLA takes stock of water scarcity

Lamka, May 5: Against the backdrop of many areas in the State facing shortage of portable water, Singngat MLA GS Haupu has visited at least five areas which are constantly facing the problem seeking to address the public’s suffering.
As the Sangaikot area that lies along Sugnu road also falls under Singngat constituency, the MLA had to make his visit in two stages, one along the Singngat area on Saturday and the Sangaikot area today.
On Saturday, the MLA held a meeting with all family heads in the sub-divisional hqtrs wherein they have agreed to employ two Peons to maintain and attend to the water supply projects taken up there. Singngat located on a hilltop with no dependable rivulet source beyond its height is, since its inception synonymous with water scarcity, and the villagers in the meeting have decided to contribute their bit in meeting the monthly remuneration of the two hired Peons.
Besides several water harvesting projects, the MLA has said he had instructed for digging up several tube wells in the village with the areas developmental funds.
In Sangaikot area today, Haupu has identified 6 villages – B Kaljang, Sangaikot, Mateijang, Kuvan, N Khaukual and Lailoiphai for installing tube well complete with a concrete water tank to solve the growing scarcity of water in the region.
He also visited the BDO Sangaikot office which is in the final stage of construction, and expressed hope that the office will be functional and officials posted there will be in attendance once it is completed.
As of now the offices supposed to be located there are functioning in makeshift or rented building in the town area.
