The Magical Sunflower Seed - story for children’s
By Kevin Pau
In a small village of ‘Sadzulub’ there lived a humble farmer named ‘Sindik’, who owns a small hut, a Woof -Woof and a lively backyard garden. He takes interest in planting a mix match of vegetables and flowers in his garden patch. A Cabbage, Pumpkin and a dying Sunflower plant can be found in his garden.
He lives on the edge of the village and as far away as possible from any neighbours. He was disliked by the other villagers. They blamed him for all the misfortune and sadness in their life and also for stealing their happiness. However, Sindik was always cheerful, while the villagers were as grumpy and moody as a thundering dark cloud.
One day Sindik has to travel to the next town for his monthly ration and supplies. He saddle up on the horse carriage and paid the wagon master to take him to ‘Doitolo Town’. On reaching the town, he went straight to his favorite shop ‘Farrow Way Essentials’, after buying all his supplies, something caught his attention, up in the shelf was a jar with a golden lid and in it was a glowing giant seed. He asked the shopkeeper, what it was.
The shopkeeper said that it was a magical seed called ‘Kipan Kipak’ from the magical town of ‘Big Khul’. Sindik asked what it does. The shopkeeper told him that it was a sunflower seed that brings happiness to whoever stares at it when it flowers.
At that moment Sindik realized that he can bring back the happiness of his fellow villagers using the magical flower. He asked for the price. The shopkeeper told him that it was for free, and he can have it on one condition that he have to follow three important rules for caring the plant.
Rule 1-No other plants should grow near the sunflower seed
Rule 2-Water the sunflower ten times a day
Rule 3-Cover the sunflower until it bears flowers
Sindik was shocked on hearing the rules, because his garden was not big enough and he have to uproot all the vegetables and flowers, and also the river was far from his house and fetching and watering the plant will take up all his time.
After giving it a thought he decided to take up the challenge, so that he can see a smile on his fellow villagers face once again. He then left the shop with a heavy heart while it was raining outside.
Sindik reached his village and the next day woke up with great excitement. He cleared all the weeds and plants from the garden. Then he sprinkles a bucket full of water in the soil. He then slowly opened the lid of the jar and carefully removed the magical sunflower seed and laid it down at the softest spot in the newly dug soil bed.
Day in-and-out the farmer cared for the flower. The sunflower plant was growing slowly, and when the time was right he cover it with a cloth as given in the rule. While all this was going on the villagers made fun of him and scolded him for the funny way he was caring for the flower. He did not give up.
Months passed and it was December already. One morning Sindik saw a small yellow petal peeking out of the covered plant and he rushed to uncover the flower. The moment he removed the cover he was greeted with a bloomy sunflower shining with a bright yellow.
The news of the sunflower spread around the village and the villagers came to see the magnificent giant sunflower. Seeing the flower their hearts were filled with joy and they felt something warm flowing through their body. One by one all the villagers saw the flower and they left the garden of Sindik with a smile as big as the flower.
Now, it was snowing outside and looking out of his window, Sindik was amazed that the flower was still glowing bright. He can also hear the echo of laughter and joy coming from the village, and at that moment he knew the magic was working. Sindik then went out to meet the merry villagers who then greeted him happily. From there onwards the name of the village was changed from Sadzulub to Cheerzulub.
