Of Causing Hurt!
B. Langkham
“Saul, Saul why persecutes thou me?”
Hunting them out and giving them a ‘hurt’,
You thought the hurt would heal the land;
But in hurting them you’re hurting the Lord,
In hurting Him you hurt yourself.
And hurt the very people you thought you serve.
In hurting Him we hurt ourselves,
In hurting ourselves He is deeply hurt;
There is no hurt that doesn’t hurt Him,
No hurting is good for any one.
Hurting is like kicking oneself,
Like kicking against the goads of old;
Or kicking nails with your bare feet,
The harder you kick the greater the hurt.
The hurt may be in the feet themselves,
But greater hurt is in the heart;
They say the 'bowels' in olden time,
They say 'liver and heart' in my own tongue;
All that it really means to say,
A deeper hurt that's deep within.
Beware ‘my tongue’ in careless disdain,
Of choosing words that cause a hurt;
Lest it comes around like an Aussie boomerang,
And hurts me more than one out there!
