4 died, 20 injured and 10 Legislators house burnt in Churachandpur.
ZNN | Churachandpur, 31st August 2015. Following the three bill passed unanimously by Manipur State Legislature today in favour of the Inner Line Permit, the tribal groups show their resentment by burning down the houses of the tribal MLAs. The legislators were targeted because none of them objected to the bills and allowed them to be passed without standing for the cause of their represented people. Their houses were set on fire and the mob prevented the police and fire engines from reaching the area. On various social network websites and groups, black posters and banners that read "31st August 2015 - The Day the Tribals of Manipur were sold by their MLAs" were posted in protest against these MLAs.
Among the houses burnt were that of the Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing, Hill Area Committee Chairman, Dr. Chaltonlien Amo, Member of Parliament Thangso Baite, Legislators Vungzagin valte, Ginsuanhau, T. Manga Vaiphei, TN Haokip, Ngamthang Haokip, Nemcha Haokip, Yamthong. The minister and the legislatures were reported to be safe as they were in the state capital attending the special legislative assembly session. Also the District Commissioner vehicle was burnt by the angry mob. To curb the chaos, Lunminthang Haokip, CCPur/DC later announced 144 CrPC in the district.
Para military forces rushes to the houses that were burnt and in the process open fired at the mob, thereby killing 4 and leaving 20 seriously injured. The death toll may increase as the condition for some of the injured were not hopeful.
Some people who were at the incident claimed the bullets that were used to fire upon the mob were not of government para military force and could be that of the valley militants. There were also speculations that the valley militants might be involved in the gun fire exchange in the guise of Commandos.
Among the 4 shot death are H. Paulianmang (23), Pausuanlian (19), M.Henlalson (25) and Thangzalian (20). Till this report was written their bodies haven't been buried as per the local custom. The people from the valley, the Meitei have made huge noise out of the killing of one RobinHood on July 8, 2015 who died during a police firing in one of the protest against Inner Line Permit held in Imphal.
Many wondered why live bullets were used to doused the mob, when tear gases or rubber bullets were used in the agitations that were held in Imphal and why commandos were called to disperse the mob.
