PROTEST/SOLIDARITY RALLY

Chennai,4th September,2015

All tribals of Manipur including tribals from other parts of the Northeastern states unitedly gathered at State Guest House, Chepauk, Chennai at 3:00pm and vehemently opposed the atrocities committed by the state security forces on the innocent people leading to the brutal killing of 8 innocent people.

Around 400 to 500 people came forward to show our solidarity to the martyrs and protest the Anti-Tribals Bills passed by the Manipur Assembly on 31.09.2015. The crowd comprised of people from Student Bodies of different tribes - Kuki, Chin, Zomi and Naga.

The Programme started at 3:00pm with opening prayer and followed by Lighting of the Candle in remembrance of those who were indiscriminately killed by the police firing at Lamka town, Manipur. The programme lasted till 4:30pm.

The crowd shouted slogans like -

OUR LAND - OUR RIGHT,
RESPECT - OUR HISTORY,
WE ARE INDIANS - NOT IMMIGRANTS,
OUR BLOOD - FOR OUR LAND
TRIBAL MLAs - RESIGN RESIGN
TRIBALS UNITY- ZINDABAD ZINDABAD
WE WANT - JUSTICE
NO RETREAT - NO SURRENDER

Some of the demands are;

1) To withdraw the Three Anti Tribal Bills passed by the Manipur Assembly
2) Resignation of Tribal MLAs
3) Justice for those killed in the incident
4) Separate Autonomy/Administration for Tribals
5) Imposition of President's Rule in the state, etc.

We would like to thank everyone for the nationalistic spirit and the painstaking effort by coming and showing our solidarity and demanding our rights.
