Don't attend Sangai Fest : UNC to tribe hohos
TSE | IMPHAL, Nov 9: The UNC has asked all tribe presidents and tribal hohos not to allow anyone from their respective tribes to participate in the official programme of the Sangai Festival 2015, being sponsored by the State Government.
Anyone defying this directive shall be at his/her own risk, said a press release issued by UNC general secretary S Milan.
"The United Naga Council (UNC) directs Naga people living in the present State of Manipur not to participate in the official programmes of the Sangai Festival 2015 being organized and hosted by the Government of Manipur which passed the anti-Naga tribal Bills and Resolution on the August 31, followed by killing of nine civilians including a minor on August 31 and September 1 while defending the inalienable tribal rights and whose bodies are still laying at the morgue of Civil Hospital, Churachand-pur for more than two months" added the statement.
"The UNC also seriously views the manner and attitude of the State Government in handling the nine bodies and is now ipretentiously inviting the tribal people for participation in the Sangai Festival, 2015 just to impress outside views and opinions," it added.
"The Naga people in the 3rd Naga Peoples' Convention held at Tahamzam (Senapati) on July 1, 2010 had declared to sever all political ties with the communal Government of Manipur as our land, history, culture, tradition, identity and time honored traditional institutions could not be safely secured", added UNC.
