IMPHAL, Apr 18: A fierce gunbattle broke out between troops of 39 Assam Rifles and cadres of proscribed People’s Liberation Army (PLA), armed wing of Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) at Zou Khunou village of Singhat Sub-Division, Churachandpur district today. A reliable source said that the encounter that lasted around 15-20 minutes occurred at around 11.30 am. No casualty has been reported so far.
Meanwhile, the proscribed RPF has claimed responsiblity for the attack on a patrol party of 39 Assam Rifles near Zou Khunou village. A press release issued by Department of Publicity Chief Taohangsu Heiremcha said that 252 M/Bn of PLA attacked the patrol party of 39 Assam Rifles firing uninterupted gunshots at around 10.30 am today. Taohangsu claimed that the first three personnel of the AR patrol team might have beeen killed or they may have suffered serious injuries in the attack. All the PLA cadres who carried out the attack have returned to their camp safely, Taohangsu said.

IMPHAL, April 18: A fierce gunbattle took place between cadres of the banned PLA and troops of 39 Assam Rifles at Zou Khunou under Singhat police station in Churachandpur district this morning, according to a source. However, there has been no reports of casualty from either side during the encounter, informed the source. The incident happened today at around 10:30 am.
Meanwhile, the proscribed RPF in a press statement has claimed that the 252 M/Bn of the PLA launched a heavy attack on a patrolling party of 39 Assam rifles near Zou Khunou under Churachandpur sub-division at 10:30 am today.
The PLA fighters attacked the troops of 39 Assam Rifles with heavy gunfire and it is believed that at least three personnel were critically wounded in the attack, the RPF claimed in a statement issued by its chief department of publicity, Taohangsu Heiremcha.
The rebel fighters involved in the clash returned to their camp safely, it further claimed.
Meanwhile, another source has informed that troops of the 39 AR foiled a bid of UNLF and RPF militants to infiltrate into the state at Zou Khunou village near the Indo-Myanmar border.
