Parcels found tampered, goods stolen
TSE. Lamka, May 26: When Deborah Haokip, a resident of Tuibuang here received a parcel by Logistics Post from New Delhi on May 22, she thought her dream of setting up a shop at one of the busiest points in the local market was finally fulfilled.
However what she found shocked her no end as 5 out of the 9 carton boxes she received had been tampered and all her prized goods replaced with newspapers and magazines that are of no value.
Narrating her nightmarish experience today, Deborah said her goods, valued at around Rs 2 lakh in 9 parcels, were booked at New Delhi on May 9.
When she received them two weeks later it came with a letter from the Transit Mail Office Imphal HPO declaring that one of the parcels was received in a torn condition.
Since she believed that it was merely torn and suspected no deliberate damage, Deborah said she received them, but found that it was a deliberate act as newspapers and magazines were stuffed in at least five of the parcels to replace the latest fashion clothes she was to receive.
Police officials have inspected the parcels along with postal staff and it is understood that a case has been registered.
