Recruitment of Asst Prof in colleges ATSUM demands Govt, MPSC to invoke UGC rules
TSE/IMPHAL, Jan 28: The All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) has demanded that the distribution of marks for candidates with regard to recruitment of Assistant Professor in Govt colleges should be based on UGC rules.
Addressing a press meet today at its office located at Nagaram, ATSUM (T) general secretary Vareiyo Shatsang drew the attention of the Commissioner of Higher and Technical Education and the MPSC in this regard.
Vareiyo Shatsang said giving 20 points for Class X and 10+2 and just 10 points for M Phil/PhD with or without NET for the post of teacher in higher education dept is a mockery to NET qualifiers and M Phil/PhD degree holders.
He said that NET or similar test for eligibility for lecturership like SLET, SET is a requisite qualification for the post of Assistant Professor in colleges and universities. As such, the Commissioner (Hr & Tech Edn) or the MPSC should not overlook the value of NET/SLET/JRF, he asserted.
If PhD degree is allotted marks, then NET qualified candidates without PhD should also be given marks equally due to the simple reason that PhD degree holders without NET are not eligible for the post of Assistant Professor in colleges and universities as per UGC guidelines before 2009, Vareiyo reasoned.
He also said that considering the variation of marking system adopted by various State/Central boards and councils, it would be unfair on the part of the MPSC to evaluate only the API with 85 marks and just 15 marks for the interview.
He pointed out that some boards/universities adopt lenient marking system while some maintain rigidity in the system.
