TSE,IMPHAL, Jan 23: The United Peoples' Front (UPF) has pointed out that the State Govt is not keeping adequate stock of post-bite anti-rabies vaccine for humans at Govt hospitals and health care centres despite its claim to having stockpiled the vaccine at Govt hospitals through the media.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, vice-president of UPF Oinam Bikramjit said that post bite anti-rabies vaccines are not readily available at Govt hospitals even though the Govt had announced through the media that the vaccines are available at Govt hospitals.
He said that one Naorem Victor Raj (8) of Nambol Naorem Mayai Leikai was taken to Nambol CHC after he was bitten by a dog today around 9.45 am. No post bite vaccine was available at the CHC.
The attending doctor told the victim party that the stock of vaccine ran out yesterday. The doctor also told the victim's party that the vaccine might arrive today at around 11am. The victim was administered the vaccine after purchasing it from a private pharmacy as the vaccine did not arrive at the CHC till 11 am, Bikramjit said.
Efforts to get satisfactory explanation from the district authority in this regard proved futile, he added.
Although the Govt announced the availability of post bite anti-rabies vaccines for humans at Govt hospitals through the media, the same is yet to be translated into action, he rued.
Bikramjit also demanded the Govt to clarify about the non-availability of the vaccine at Nambol CHC.
