A militant shot to injure one of his colleagues before committing suicide by shooting himself with the arm in his possession in Manipur’s Churachandpur district, a police report said Sunday.
The incident took place at Mallung village under Thanlon police station of Churachandpur district. The deceased cadre has been identified as Mansawn (25) while the injured cadre as G Thang alias Anurag.
Both the cadres belonged to Zomi Revolutionary Army (ZRA), a constituent of Kuki based militant group, United People’s Front (UPF) maintaining suspension of operation trust with the government.
Reports said that there was a scuffle among the cadres of the Zomi Revolutionary Army at Mallung village, where they were camping, allegedly under the influence of the alcohol.
During the scuffle, Mansawn took out a small gun from his possession and fired several rounds at his colleague, G Thang who sustained bullet injuries on his abdomen and left hand.
After the shooting incident, Mansawn left the place after which other cadres chased him.
However, before falling in the hands of the other cadres, Mansawn shot himself to death with the arm in his possession.
The cadres collected the dead body and took to its designated camp at Vejangphai village before handing over to his family.
On the other hand, the injured cadre who was rushed to the Churachandpur district hospital was later referred to Shija hospital, Imphal, after his condition became critical. He was operated to remove the bullets from his body and admitted at the ICU room, a hospital source said.
