3rd World Zomi Convention First Day Report

Lamka, Oct.25 : Under the organizing committee of the 3rd World Zomi Convention today held a grand cultural exchange and cultural exhibition at Lamka Public Ground Hiangtam Lamka today. The Honble Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur, Gaikhangam as Chief Guest, MD Nasir, Hon’ble Agricultural Minister, and Health Minister, Phungzathang Tonsing  as Chief Host in the convention. The Convenor, R Sanga focusing on the role of community in maintaining peace and security, he said no peace nor progress. Nor outsider will give us peace and progress, we would bring peace among us, and it depends upon us, said in an welcome address to the Third World Zomi Convention-2013. Secondly, R. Sanga said the Zo people rich and varied cultural heritage should be preserved with great pomp and show. Thirtdly, the organizing committee shall have a very existing and interesting Seminar or Workshop on the burning topics which is brewing Zoland/Zogam and Zo Society, how we should face the challenges and what the Zo people can do not against it and what boon it would bring to the people in case the organizing committee take the right steps and win the challenges, it said.  Minister of Road and Transport & Highways, Govt. of India. The Hon’ble Minister of Road Transport and Highway, Shri  Oscar Fernandes said in his letter, “ that due to the announcement of Election to Legislative Assembly in 5 states in the near future and urgent matters cropping up in my Ministry to attend too, I am wrting this letter to convey my sincere regret that I would not be able to attend the convention”.

Chairman of the Zomi Council (ZC) General headquarters LB Sona said, the Council appreciate the devotion and commitment of every persons, community and Chruches to make a convention a success, particularly from Bawnkon Pastor Bial, Azawl, Mizo Cardinal Choir from Aizawl, Mizoram and others. He said, it is also a pertinent that the Zo people seek the communities in their repective place of stay The Chairman Zomi Council said while we continue to srtiv e for builing a stronger nation, we can not ignored the nimportance of maintaining the spirit of peaceful co-existence with neigbouring communities.He further said in this globalised village no community can effort to exist in secularism pursue an exclu8sive agenda and further isolated, and said, neither can we live forever with our bitter past.

In the convention, Chief Guest Shri Gaikhangam, Hon’ble Dy. CM have a lighting Lamp. During the Convention, cultural exchange from Naga Cultural troupes, Meitei cultural troupes and Thang-ta dance were held, along with along with simultenous presentation of cultural dance by various tribes.
