The President of India withheld the Manipur PMP Bill
Zogam.com News Network | New Delhi - 7 June 2016: Although the Government of India wrote to the Manipur government regarding the Protection of Manipur People Bill, 2015 way back in 11 May 2016, it was not made known to the public until this morning by Hueiyen Lanpao, one of the largest daily newspaper of Manipur.
According to the official letter signed by Surender Rani, Under Secretary to the Government of India, the Protection of Manipur People Bill, 2015 was withheld by the Hon'ble President of India as per Article 201 of the constitution.
At the same time today, the Manipur All Party Delgation who camped at New Delhi in their Press Release today stated that they were in meeting with Shri Rajnath Singh, the Home Minister of India regarding the other two bills namely The Manipur Land reform and Land Revenue (7th Amendment) Bill, 2015 and the Shops and Establishment (2nd Amendment) Bill, 2015. The Press Release state that these two bills were under examination by experts and the withheld bill PMP would also be requested for re-examination it stated.
Meanwhile, protests against these Bills continues at Jantar Mantar led by the Manipur Tribal Forum, Delhi (MTFD). Yesterday, large number of the Manipur tribal people gathered in front of the Manipur Bhavan, New Delhi in protest against the Manipur All Party delegates. Similar protests are expected to continue until the bills are rejected or withheld.
Now, the big anticipation from the Manipur people is whether the President would assent or withhold the other two remaining bills.
