Itanagar, Jan 22 :North East Justice Forum has been formed to fight discrimination against people from the regionin any part of the country. The Forum was formed in Delhi yesterday with former Lok Sabha member Takam Sanjoy heading it.
Nido Pavitra, the father of Nido Tania, a victim of racial discrimination who died last year after an attack on him at Lajpat Nagar market in the National capital is one of the eight members of its interim committee, Sanjoy said in a statement here today. The Forum in its first meeting took serious exception to CBI’s recommendation on the basis of which the trial Court had dropped charges under the ST/SC Act from the FIR thereby weakening Nido Tania case, the statement said.
Delhi High Court had on January 9 sought CBI response on a plea filed by Pavitra in this regard.
Justice Manmohan Singh had issued notice to four accused - Farman, Pawan, Sunder Singh and Sunny Uppal seeking their reply on Pavitra’s plea against the trial Court’s decision to drop charges under the SC/ST Act against the culprits.
The committee also reviewed the Bezbaruah Committee recommendations and its implementation by the Centre following the Union Home Ministry’s announcement on January 2 that it was working to implement them. The meeting decided to commemorate Tania’s first death anniversary as martyr’s day either at Jantar Mantar or Central Park or Connaught Place involving all sections of people including the NE communities living in Delhi, the statement added.
