There are chances that Ebola outbreak may occur in Manipur. According to State Epide-mologist Dr Khoirom Shashikumar, a weaker strain of Ebola virus has been found among the monkeys and bats in Manipur.

Speaking at the 3-day training programme on Ebola virus organised by State Health Directorate at RD Wing, Lamphelpat Dr Khoirom Shashikumar said Ebola outbreak may occur in the state if mutation of the weaker strain of ebola virus occurs which has been found among the monkeys and bats in Manipur. He said at present, there are no cases of ebola in the state.

Cautioning people to remain alert Dr Khoirom Shashikumar said the virus may enter the state by people or by the birds.
Shashikumar further maintained that strict measures have been taken up to check the virus from entering the state. A surveillance machine called Non-Contact Laser Thermo Meter is used at Imphal Airport, Mao, Moreh and Jiribam.
