TSE/IMPHAL, Oct 30: The State Govt has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to grace either the inaugural function or valedictory function of this year's Sangai Festival slated to begin from Nov 21.
At the same time, the Govt has discussed ways to make security personnel more friendly to participants and revellers of the Sangai Festival.
According to an official source, a meeting of the Sangai Festival Organising Committee presided by Chief Minister O Ibobi today decided to organise the festival in such a way that it promotes the State to the global arena.
The meeting was attended by top State Govt officials and representatives of MMTA and Tourism Forum.
The State Govt has also extended solicitation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for gracing either the inaugural function or valedictory function of the festival as the chief guest.
However, the PM is yet to accept or reject the invitation.
The meeting today decided to set up a complex to attract the attention of the visitors.
The Complex would accommodate 50-60 stalls which will put on display various products like Manipur handloom and handicraft products, artisans, musical instruments and cultural items and traditional designs.
Apart from prohibiting sale of intoxicants at the festival venue, the meeting also discussed in detail about adopting friendly method of checking visitors by security personnel, the source said.
The source also said that Chief Minister of Myanmar's Chin State is likely to participate in the Sangai Festival.
On the other hand, the participation of delegates of Myanmar, Singapore and Indonesia embassies in India has been confirmed, the source said.
Besides cultural troupe from Thailand, cultural troupes from Odisha and Tripura would also participate in the festival.
