IRB Cadre Killed in Suspected NSCN-IM Ambush in Ukhrul, Manipur
Sept 9, Imphal: One Indian Reserve Battalion cadre was killed in an ambush led by suspected NSCN-IM cadres today against Manipur Commandos who were returning from Ukhrul following the revocation of 144 CrPC from Ukhrul Town in Manipur.
The two ambushes by the NSCN-IM were seemingly to avenge the death of two civilians during a peaceful rally demanding revocation of 144 CrPC and deployment of increased presence of additional IRBs and Commandos in Ukhrul town.
The IRB cadre killed has been identified as Thotyo Kashung from Riha Village, Ukhrul District. He succumbed to his injuries at the military hospital at Shangshak Army Hospital.
The first ambush occurred this morning around 9.30 am between Litan and Mahadev road when the Road Opening Team of the State Commandos who were returning from Ukhrul Head Quarter.
In the second incident suspected NSCN-IM cadres led their ambush against the Commando Convoys at a location called Nungshang Kong near Hundung Village which is 8 Kms away from Ukhrul town at around 10.30 am.
Unconfirmed reports said that more than five Commandos were injured in the ambush. They are being taken to Shangshak Army Hospital and Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, JNIMS Trauma centre in Imphal. Two Commandos admitted at JNIMS are reported to be in serious condition.
Police commandoes hurt in Ukhrul ambush

Around three Manipur police commando personnel were reportedly injured when suspected NSCN(IM) cadres ambushed a police commandoes team in Manipur’s Ukhrul district, reports available here claimed. The incident took place when a team of Manipur police commandoes were returning to Imphal from Ukhrul town at two different points located between the Ukhrul Cement factory site and Nungsangkhong river area, about 65km north of Imphal along Imphal-Ukhrul route around 9.40 am,sources added.
The police commandoes team also retaliated and a fire fight continues in the area. The injured police commandoes have been reportedly evacuated to JNIMS hospital for further treatment, reports added. But details of the incident yet to be confirmed officially till the report goes to the website.
