Ceasefire extension
The extension of ceasefire agreement will be signed in Dimapur on Friday with the GPRN/NSCN (Khole –Kitovi) and the Government of India ( Ministry of Home Affairs) . The ceasefire that was agreed in April 2012 in New Delhi will be extended for one year.
The GPRN/NSCN split from NSCN(Khaplang) in 2011. The Kitovi-Khole led GPRN-NSCN faction emerged after Chairman of NSCN-K, SS Khaplang, was impeached and expelled for his alleged dictatorial leadership during a meeting at the Khehoi designated camp near Dimapur, under Kitovi Zhimomi.Khole, the commander in chief became its Chairman and Khehoi was announced its designated camp headquarters.
NCSN (Khaplang) signed ceasefire with Myanmar Government in Sagaing province in April 2012. This time the Khaplang factions were also invited for a ceasefire agreement with the Govt of India in Dimapur. The leadership is expected to arrive for the same on Friday.
It may be mentioned that this is the second time such ceasefire agreement were signed in Dimapur. The first was with the NSCN(IM) and GoI way back in 2007. Currently the NSCN (IM) peace talk is on hold due to the resignation of interlocutor R.S.Pandey in December last year. Panday’s successor is expected after the formation of the new government in the centre.
