LAMKA, June 17/IFP: Locals of Hiangtam Lamka in CCpur are trying to take the MGNREGS flagship program to a new level with the construction of a new people's road at Mission Veng by utilizing the service of two heavy machineries (JCB / L&T CASE) and three tipper trucks.
The Chief of Lamka town Thangkhosuanmung Guite said that apart from the MGNREG Scheme of the govt, the construction had been undertaken with the sole object of service for the people.
He added that the work is being undertaken with voluntary monetary help from MGNREGS job card holders collected by the village authorities to pay for the heavy machineries, while others who cannot chip in the money provide the manual labour.
The road stretch about 100 meters long on the sloping side had to be dug about four feet deep requiring heavy machineries.
He continued that the MDC S Kamsuanlun will provide ballast to the new road before the arrival of heavy downpour and said that he will further appeal to the concerned Minister of the area to black top the road at the earliest.
Secretary of the Hiangtam Lamka VA Siamchinkhup said that as of now, there is no hard cash, but the construction has been taken up in good faith and on a need basis for which he praised the chief of Hiangtam Lamka for his enthusiasm as well as the people who have contributed to the cause.
The road under construction acts as one of the most important roads in Hiangtam Lamka as people inhabiting the area depend on this road to get their requirements. Several people have also newly established villages in the area notably on the cemetery side of Hiangtam Lamka with as many as five new localities beyond Mission Veng.
Many of the locals have expressed their wish for the road to have a good drainage system as several roads in CCPur including the Tiddim Road, Sugnu Road, Guite Road, Tipaimukh Road etc have all been affected by bad drainage system.
