Imphal, June 09 2012: Expressing serious concern over the illegal activities of most shopkeepers/traders in and around Churachandpur in total contravention to the established Consumers' Rights, Laws and Acts, Consumers' Club, Churachandpur (CCC) has drawn the attention of the authority concerned to remedy the maladies so as to promote and uphold Consumers' Rights & Responsibilities in the district.
In a statement issued by its information and publicity wing, CCC said it is shocked to learn that some, if not most, of the shopkeepers/traders in and around Churachandpur district are engaging in illegal activities in total contravention to the established Consumers' Rights, Laws & and Acts.
The Club has been receiving numerous complaints from consumers, who have been exorbitantly charged by some shopkeepers in excess of the printed M.R.P.(Maximum Retail Price) on the goods & products.
What is even more abhorring is that profit-oriented (capitalists?) shopkeepers rescind, rub or overwrite the printed M.R.P.on the goods/products in their efforts to get rich quick.
Since these mundane practices are illegal, unethical and un-called for, CCC strongly appealed to the authority concerned for taking up necessary measures.
In the event of these nasty activities continuing to remain uncurbed and/or uncontrolled, CCC shall be compelled to take every possible course of actions in the interest of the Consumers, the statement warned.
