Chennai Sahnit Ni - Kuki Black Day

The Kuki Black Day or the so called Sahnit Ni in local dialect was celebrated solemnly by the Kuki community living in Chennai, India, in commemoration of those innocent people killed during the intended ethnic cleansing in the 1990s perpetrated by the infamous NSCN(IM) in various states of the Northeast India.

The Programme was organised by the Kuki Students' Organisation, Chennai, in collaboration with the Kuki Worship Service, Chennai. The Programme started at 3:30 pm and lasted till 6:00 pm. Various items were presented by individual and groups.

The two major event of the day was the Candle Lighting Programme, in remembrance of those killed (both in the 1990s and the recent protest), and the Speech given by Mr. Paokam Haokip; enlightening the audience about the Kuki Nation and the recent problems and issues related to the recently passed Anti Tribal Bills by the Manipur Assembly. He also spoke at length on how the Bills are a threat for the Tribals and also suggested various means and mechanisms on how to bring unity among the kuki brethren.

KWS(C) Evangelist Augustus Haokip humbly prayed for the bereaved families of those killed and earnestly prayed for the unity of the people. Meanwhile, the first ever Kuki Students' Organisation, Chennai T. Shirt was also dedicated by the Evangelist to God Almighty and the T. Shirt was released by the KSO(C) Advisor Mr. Mangboi Lhungdim and Mr. Lenpu Changsan. The congregation called upon God Almighty by concluding the gathering with mass prayer.

May the souls of those killed be a source of unity and oneness for the people, for whom they sacrificed their lives.
